Welcome To Slate Aid Group
A Needs-Based Community Assistance Program
What happens when a couple of bikers get together and start brainstorming?
That's right, just about anything.
So it comes as no surprise that when these brothers got together one December afternoon and decided to form Slate Aid Group, the sky became the limit.
"Rusty', Slate, owner of Trax Tavern in Thomasville North Carolina, and his wife Jana, have always taken a hands-on approach with their business. Day in and day out greeting customers and spending countless hours conversing with neighbors and other residents of Thomasville and surrounding communities, making everyone feel comfortable and cozy - your home away from home. As days passed and people dropped in to talk, the theme began to become eerily familiar.
Everyone knows of a fellow biker, friend, coworker, or family member that has fallen on some hard times to the point where it changed their lives. Rusty, being the man of action, jumped in and tried to help. However, as the help started pouring out, more and more requests came. Realizing that the need was so great, Rusty decided to enlist the help of a couple of friends / business owners in the area. A couple of convincing phone calls later, Slate Aid Group had been born. Morris Barnett of Barnett Steel Erection Inc. with wife Julie, and John Morrow of Presidia General Contracting Inc. and his wife Julie, jumped in at Rusty and Jana’s side and committed to help form a charity that would be able to help on a much greater level.
Slate Aid Group Inc., completely run by volunteers and donations, launched first quarter of 2018 with the hopes that they could reach out to the surrounding areas through friends and family, local first responders, police, and fellow bikers to be a helping hand in times of need. The organization met up with other local business owners and received helping hands with organization and consulting services. As the word spread of the intent of the group, the support became more and more evident.
Several fund raisers and rides are in planning for the upcoming season, and other owners and concerned patrons have pledged to support the mission of the group. The wishes of these founders are simple: to help make the hard times for those a little more bearable, and to provide aid in times of disaster. The board will meet monthly with the purpose of evaluating and prioritizing requests for help, coordinating community involvement and planning / executing strategies for continued growth in the hopes of expanding to assist more friends and families in the surrounding areas. In the upcoming months, look for them at events and on social media to come out and help support a group that is making a difference in the lives of people who simply need a helping hand. Merchandise will be available to show your support and wear proudly that you are one that wants to help thy neighbor!
